I’m going to college now, deer.

101 bird deaths: Solved

Even as I work the desk this week here in PD photo, I'm still getting out to shoot a photo here and there. Yesterday, I took an hour to photograph the mystery of the dead birds on Highway 101 near Geyserville. Thanks to some timely reporting from Steve Hart, it [...]

Sorta kinda outtakes

Sometimes you'll see it in the newspaper, sometimes you won't. Dubbya dubbya dubbya is the fathomless, infinite vehicle in which photos are placed and viewed in perpetuity, never to face the undignified glorious death by fish wrapper or folded and glued to the bottom of your neighbors parakeet cage. In my 23 years covering the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, I've never seen this much emotion from a board decision. Read the captions... -Kent Porter

Jube: Jubilation

A friend on Facebook the other day asked me what the word  "jube" meant. I first heard the word "jube" from former Sacramento shooter Lois Bernstein. Every photog I know uses this slang when referring to "Hey, did you get that great jubilation after the game winning touchdown?" reply, "Yes [...]

Emerald City 101

Every once in awhile a story comes along that we photographers know will make good pictures. Last weekend, I was sent to cover the Emerald Cup north of Laytonville. You can read the story by Glenda Anderson here. Mendocino County is ground zero for cannabis culture. The Emerald Cup has [...]
